Pat Summitt – life coaching at its best

“I”ll do this as long as I go to practice and am excited about practice. Most people get excited about games, but I’ve got to be excited about practice, because that’s my classroom. And as long as I have that feeling in my head and my heart, then I’m going to do it. When I walk in there and I’m practicing, and I’m thinking, ‘I don’t want to be here,’ then I’m not going to cheat anybody. I’ll tell the university in a heartbeat that I’m done.

Under the Walnut Tree

When I first saw the pretty, green-headed mallard in the gutter, I thought he’d just been hit.  I didn’t go back that day; it was getting too dark to go bury him in my regular place, under the big walnut tree in the field nearby.  That night, it rained and rained – and rained.  Yesterday, when I went to retrieve him, he was lying in a puddle and as we slid the shovel underneath him, the smell was pretty bad. He smelled of fish and I could tell he’d been there longer than I thought.  Still, I couldn’t leave him there to just lie with his pretty green head in the water.  Just days before, he’d been paddling around the little pond, his orange feet propelling him through muddy water, bobbing along with his flock mates like a marshmallow floating on a cup of hot cocoa.  Now, he lay dead in a puddle.  How many people walked past and looked at him?  How many just said, Oh, the city will come and pick him up?  But the city didn’t come.

Money doesn’t grow on trees, it grows in the anti-aging market!

Looking for a job?  I was.  In fact, for over a year, I scoured the want ads and threw my resume out there in front of employers that scrutinized my background and skills.  I was asked demeaning questions such as, “have you ever been arrested for drugs?” or “would you be willing to work for 60 days on a trial basis without pay?”  I felt small and unimportant.  Then, I decided to go a different route and I found a business that I could do that would make me feel BIG and good.  I was nervous about working on commission, but when I thought about it, I realized that it would be a challenge and my true skills would be put to the test.
